Bunded Tanks

Bunded tanks are the saftest method of fuel storage on site, or for domestic use. Bunded tanks house a primary tank within a secondary tank, or bund. The major advantage of bunded tanks over single skin fuel tanks is that failure of the primary tank results in no spillage as it is safely contained within the bund.

Not only are bunded tanks safer than ordinary fuel tanks, they also contain any leaks or spillage preventing waste. Bunded tanks must be used (as stipulated in the 2001 Control of Pollutions Act) for any commercial fuel tank above 200L and any domestic fuel tanks above 3500L. To store any amount of fuel safely, bunded tanks should always be used.
