5 Reasons Your Fuel Tank Should Be Bunded

5 Reasons Your Fuel Tank Should Be Bunded

The storage of fuels and certain corrosive acids is, by its very definition, hazardous. It is imperative therefore that the correct precautions are taken and a solution employed that maximises safety. We think that the very best tool available for the task is a steel bunded tank system. Here are 5 reasons why…

1. They are good for the environment

We live in an age of increased environmental awareness; everything from cars to household appliances are now designed with the environment at least partly in mind. A bunded tank employs a double layer, ‘tank within a tank’ design, meaning that the fuel stored within in it would need to break through two protective layers rather than just one before it could escape and cause problems. In the instance of any leak, the secondary layer allows time for the situation to be rectified without any outside environmental issues.

2. Health and safety regulations

The major piece of legislation to keep in mind here is the Control of Pollution regulation drawn up in 2001. This stipulates that all commercial and industrial tank users must provide a secondary containment capability to make sure that in the event of any leaks, the fuels stored do not make it to the outside world where they could potentially mix with water.

A bunded tank is the ideal tool to employ to meet these governmental requirements.

3. Large storage capacity

Steel bunded tanks, unlike their plastic counterparts, have an excellent storage capacity; in fact you can store up 120,000 litres in a single steel bunded tank system. What’s more, thanks to their flexible design you can tailor the system to store as much or as little as your particular application requires, providing an ideal custom solution.

4. Durable and long lasting solution

Steel bunded tanks systems are made using only the best materials and are specifically designed to withstand the worst that the weather can throw at them. This resistance to external corrosion helps extend the lifespan of the system, as does its ability to cope well if constantly exposed to sunlight, unlike some plastic counterparts.

This long standing durability not only ensures that your fuel remains safely stored and unable to cause damage to your site, premises and workforce, but it also saves you money over the long-term.

5. Keeps your fuels safe and secure

Many of the fuels that are stored for commercial and industrial purposes carry a high monetary value and as such, companies want to prevent and discourage attempts to steal them. Here, a steel bunded tank system comes into its own. Made from tough materials that are hard to drill into or otherwise force, they provide the ultimate in security for your stored fuels and the money you have invested in them.
